Digital Archivist, Library Services

Shannon has a huge place in her heart for history. Having studied history since her undergraduate years, she has gained a deep respect for the conservation and archiving of local history artifacts. She constantly finds herself motivated to bring life to the past and preserve it in a such a way that will allow people of the present, and future, to use and observe.

In 2012, this ambition motivated Shannon to become involved in the Christian County Historical Society, where she has served two years as president and provides an avenue for a more hands-on approach to history. She assist others in the community with their research, is involved with the publication of The Christian County Historian, a quarterly local history newsletter as well oversees the activities of the Christian County Museum, which recently moved to a larger location in 2017. The museum and historical society are both entirely volunteer efforts, and she loves getting the chance to work with students and community members that share her passion for history. In time, she hopes to partner with the Christian County Library to retrieve a local time capsule from the county courthouse.

Overall, Shannon is a true representative of our public affairs pillars, connecting herself with the historical culture of Christian County and with her community.  For helping to raise historical awareness and preservation we are pleased to spotlight Shannon Mawhiney.

Interview and spotlight provided by Cole Howerton, student assistant, Office of Public Affairs Support.
