Public Affairs Student Spotlight March

Sigma Chi Fraternity

Student Organization, FSL

The March Public Affairs Student Spotlight highlights the student organization, Sigma Chi.  This month the fraternity hosted a donation drive for the Bear Pantry, Missouri State University’s food pantry that is available to students, faculty and staff experiencing food insecurity. The students in Sigma Chi collected 1,150 items and 475.9 pounds of food for the pantry over the course of three days.

Kirby Garrett, Sigma Chi’s MSU chapter President, stated that the group was recently re-chartered in 2014 and had little set up in the way of philanthropy. He and Brandon Gaffney, the organization’s Philanthropy Chair, shared that their goal is to expand on their efforts to serve the community and host more philanthropic events in semesters to come. Being their first semester in these positions, they are excited to see their projects come to life and become more engaged in the community.

The organization’s national philanthropy is the Huntsman Cancer Institute, and they will host an event called Derby Days at the end of April to raise money and awareness for this organization’s cancer research. Keep an eye out for this event and more in the coming months. Congratulations, Sigma Chi, and good luck with all your philanthropic endeavors!
