Marks interest in Japanese culture, along with his own unique experience in Japan, has created a spark of desire to promote his passion locally.
Since 2011, Mark has been involved with the Springfield Sisters City Association. Initially, he started as a member of the Japan Committee, transitioned to become Chair of the Committee and most recently, appointed to the Executive Board. Mark is also involved with the Springfield Park Board, as well as the Springfield Gardens. He speaks of the personal impact of his involvement: “I had an opportunity to visit our sister city in Japan in 2016, having had the privilege to stay with a local family while there. It was great. I plan to visit our sister city again next year.” Mark has developed a new appreciation for new and different cultures and feels an increased relationship benefits Springfield economically, culturally and individually as citizens.
Mark’s inspiration, and reward, is to see his love of Japanese culture shared by so many, as demonstrated by the annual Japanese Festival that hosts 15,000+ in attendance. He encourages everyone to share in his experience and passion!
